How this guide works

Down to Earth is an independent guide, not a shop. Until a maker tells us otherwise, we have no arrangement with the businesses we write about: no stock, no stockist agreement, no partnership. Every unclaimed page says so plainly.

How we source facts. We write from what a maker publishes about themselves, and from regional press where it adds something. Every factual claim on a maker's page is checked against a source, and every page notes when it was last verified. Facts aren't re-checked forever: anything older than six months is due another look.

No prices. We don't list prices for goods you buy on a maker's own site. Prices change, and they aren't ours to set. Where you can buy something through us, the button says "See current price at the maker's site."

How we make money, and when we'll say so. Today, this site earns nothing beyond what it costs to run. If that changes, for instance a small referral commission on a link to a maker who runs an affiliate program, we'll disclose it on the page where it applies, not just in a footer. Paid placements, if we ever introduce them, will be labelled as paid, clearly, on the page.

If something's wrong. Facts get out of date and mistakes happen. If you spot one, or you're the maker and something needs correcting, use the "is this your business?" link on any page. We aim to fix genuine errors within 48 hours of hearing about them.
